Tyshawn's Early Life and Skateboarding Journey
Tyshawn Jones was born in Manhattan, New York. He spent his childhood living in both New Jersey and The Bronx, New York.
When he was 10 years old, Tyshawn played the video game Skate with his brother and uncle. This game introduced him to the exciting world of skateboarding. Soon after, he bought his very first skateboard from Target.
Even though his older brother, Brian, eventually stopped skateboarding, Tyshawn kept going. He never let falls or challenges stop him. When he moved back to the Bronx from New Jersey, he spent even more time skating. He found other skaters who were better than him, which made him want to improve even more. Tyshawn loved watching skate videos as he grew up.
Becoming a Professional Skateboarder
Tyshawn learned about sponsorships and started filming himself skateboarding in New York City. He saw this as a way to get free equipment, not just to become famous.
His amazing skills and unique style quickly caught the attention of Supreme, a popular clothing brand. This led to Tyshawn appearing in many of their videos. He was featured in Supreme's 2014 video, cherry, directed by Bill Strobeck. Tyshawn's energy and excitement after landing tricks made his style special.
After the cherry video, Tyshawn started his own company called Hardies. It sells skateboard hardware and clothing. He co-founded it with his teammate, Na-Kel Smith. Also in 2014, Tyshawn signed with Adidas. He showed off his first solo skate video part in Adidas' full-length team video, Away Days. In 2017, Adidas released Tyshawn's first signature shoe color and material.
Tyshawn skates with his left foot forward, which is called regular-footed.
Winning Thrasher Skater of the Year
In 2018, when Tyshawn was just 19, he released an amazing part in Supreme's video "BLESSED." This was one of the most talked-about skate videos of the year! His part started with a cool trick: a switch flip into the fountain at Washington Square Park.
This incredible performance earned him the 2018 Skater of the Year award from Thrasher magazine. The award was given to him by the magazine's editor-in-chief, Jake Phelps. Tyshawn was also featured on the cover of the January 2019 issue of Thrasher.
In 2022, Tyshawn won the Thrasher Skater of the Year award again! He appeared on the cover of the December 2022 issue. The cover photo showed him doing a 360 kickflip over the subway tracks at the 145th Street station.
