Tōta Kaneko (金子 兜太, Kaneko Tōta) was a famous Japanese writer. He was born on September 23, 1919, in Chichibu, Saitama, Japan. He studied at the University of Tokyo, a well-known university. After his studies, he worked for the Bank of Japan.

Tōta Kaneko became very good at writing a special kind of Japanese poem called haiku. His father, Mitsuharu Kaneko, helped him start writing these poems. Over his life, Tōta Kaneko won many important awards for his writing. He passed away on February 20, 2018, in Kumagaya, Saitama, when he was 98 years old. He died from pneumonia, a lung illness.
