The Peterborough Main Post Office is a special building located at 23 Grove Street in Peterborough, New Hampshire. It was built in 1936 and is a great example of a building style called Georgian Revival. What makes it even more unique is that it looks almost exactly the same as when it was first built. Inside, you can find a beautiful painting, called a mural, created by an artist named Marguerite Zorach as part of a program called the WPA. Because of its history and design, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

Discovering the Peterborough Post Office
The Peterborough Main Post Office is right in the middle of downtown Peterborough. It sits on the north side of Grove Street. This building has only one floor and is made of red bricks. It was designed by an architect named Louis A. Simon and finished in 1936.
What does it look like?
The outside of the post office is made of red bricks laid in a special pattern. The roof is covered with dark gray slate tiles and has a fancy carved wooden edge. The main door is in the center of the front of the building. Above the door, there's a cool half-round window that looks like a fan. The door and window are framed by columns and a decorative archway. On either side of the entrance, there are windows with stone decorations above them.
Inside the building
When you step inside, the lobby floor has square tiles in blue and orange colors. The bottom part of the walls is covered in marble, and the top part is smooth plaster. There's also a decorative plaster border where the walls meet the ceiling. The most interesting part of the inside is a large painting on the wall. This mural shows a winter scene with snow being delivered by a horse-drawn sleigh.
History of the Post Office
The Peterborough Post Office was built in 1936. This was during a tough time in American history called the Great Depression. The government started projects like building post offices to create jobs for people. This building's style, Georgian Revival, was popular at the time and fits in with other buildings nearby. The beautiful mural inside was painted by Marguerite Zorach, who was an artist from the local area.
