Union Deposit is a small community in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. It's a special kind of area called a census-designated place. This means it's a community that the government counts for population, but it doesn't have its own separate local government like a city or town.

Union Deposit is part of South Hanover Township. It's also considered part of the larger Harrisburg area. In 2010, about 407 people lived in Union Deposit.

History of Union Deposit

Union Deposit was first planned out in 1833. Two people, Isaac Hershey and Philip Wolfersberger, helped start the community. At first, it had different names like Unionville and Uniontown.

The community grew a lot because of the Union Canal. This canal was like a water highway for boats carrying goods. The name "Union Deposit" comes from the canal, because this was a place where goods were "deposited" or dropped off. This made the village a busy spot for different businesses.

Where is Union Deposit?

Union Deposit is located in the southeastern part of Dauphin County. It sits along the edge of South Hanover Township.

Natural Features

The southern and eastern border of Union Deposit follows a waterway called Swatara Creek. This creek flows south and eventually joins the Susquehanna River, which is a very large river.
