Norwood Park started as a small village in 1872. It was created from parts of nearby areas like Jefferson, Leyden, and Niles. The village got its name from a book called Norwood, or Village Life in New England, written by Henry Ward Beecher in 1868. Norwood Park officially became part of Chicago on November 7, 1893.
