History of D'Annunzio University

How the University Started

In 1955, leaders from Chieti and Pescara wanted to create a new university. They planned to build a non-government university in Chieti. Their idea was sent to the Italian Ministry of Public Education. In 1960, the plan to create the University Consortium of Abruzzi was approved. Many local groups helped make this happen.

In 1961, the first part of the university opened. It was a faculty for letters and philosophy. This was set up at the National Archaeology Museum of Abruzzo. Soon after, courses in business, economics, and foreign languages were added.
