Unni Maria Lindell was born on April 3, 1957, in Oslo, Norway. She is a famous Norwegian writer. She is well-known for her exciting mystery novels, also called "whodunits." These are stories where a detective tries to solve a crime.
But Unni Lindell doesn't just write mysteries! She has also written many books for children and young adults. She has even published a collection of poems.
Who is Unni Lindell?
Before becoming a full-time author, Unni Lindell worked as a journalist. This means she wrote news stories and articles for newspapers or magazines. Her very first book was called Den grønne dagen ("The Green Day"). It was published in 1986.
Her Famous Characters
One of Unni Lindell's most popular characters is a detective named Cato Isaksen. He is the main character in many of her crime novels. These books are very exciting!
Some of the stories about Cato Isaksen have even been made into TV films. An actor named Reidar Sørensen played the role of Detective Isaksen in these films.
Awards and Recognition
Unni Lindell has won several important awards for her writing. In 1998, she received the Mads Wiel Nygaards Endowment. This award helps support writers.
She also won the Critics' Prize for the best children's or youth literature. This shows how much people appreciate her books for young readers.
In both 1999 and 2018, Unni Lindell won the Riverton Prize. This is a special award given each year to the best Norwegian detective story. Winning it twice is a great achievement!
