What Happened in Santa Cruz de Mudela?
On that day, about 400 French soldiers were staying in Santa Cruz de Mudela. The people of the town decided to fight back against them. They attacked the French troops.
The Battle's Outcome
During this uprising, 109 French soldiers were killed. Another 113 French soldiers were captured by the townspeople. The rest of the French troops ran away. They headed back towards Madrid, going to a town called Valdepeñas. The very next day, there was another big uprising against the French Army in Valdepeñas, known as the Valdepeñas Uprising.
