Upsilon Andromedae d is a fascinating exoplanet. This means it's a planet that orbits a star outside our own Solar System. It goes around a star called Upsilon Andromedae A, which is quite similar to our Sun.
Discovering New Worlds
Upsilon Andromedae A was one of the very first stars discovered to have more than one planet orbiting it. Before this, only our Sun and a special star called PSR 1257+12 were known to have multiple planets.
In 1999, two different teams of scientists were studying Upsilon Andromedae A. They both independently figured out that this star actually had three planets orbiting it. The two new planets were named Upsilon Andromedae C and Upsilon Andromedae D.
