Utakarra is a suburb located to the east of Geraldton in Western Australia. It is part of the City of Greater Geraldton, which is like the local council that manages the area. Before July 1, 2007, Utakarra was where the main offices for the Shire of Greenough were located.
The name "Utakarra" became official for this area in 1972. This means it was formally recognized as a suburb.
In 2006, a count of people called a census was done. The 2006 census showed that 971 people lived in Utakarra at that time.
Utakarra Racecourse: Horse Racing Fun
Utakarra is home to the Utakarra Racecourse. This is where horse races happen! The Geraldton Turf Club runs the racecourse. This club has been around for a very long time, since 1861. You can find the racecourse on Eastward Road.
San Spirito Chapel: A Special Building
The San Spirito Chapel is a beautiful and historic building in Utakarra. It was built in 1936. A very talented person named Monsignor John Hawes designed and decorated the chapel. You can find this special chapel in the Utakarra cemetery.
