Early Life and Musical Journey
Vania Dantas Leite was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She loved music from a young age and studied composition with Frederico Egger. She also learned to play the piano with Zila de M. Brito at the Escola Nacional de Musica.
In 1974, Vania became very interested in electronic music. She bought special equipment from a studio in London to create her own electronic sounds. She set up her own music lab in Rio de Janeiro. Soon, she started sharing her electronic music at festivals in Europe and America.
Teaching and Innovation
Vania Dantas Leite began teaching at the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro in 1981. There, she created something very special: the Studio for Electroacoustic Music of the Villa-Lobos Institute (SE-FIR). She was also the director of this studio. This studio helped students explore and create music using electronic tools.
