Valerie Nurr'araaluk Davidson was born on May 19, 1967. She is an American politician and leader. She served as the 13th Lieutenant Governor of Alaska for a short time in 2018. The Lieutenant Governor is like a vice-governor.
In April 2020, Valerie Davidson became the president of Alaska Pacific University. She was the first woman to hold this important role. Later, in March 2021, she became the interim president of the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium. This group works to improve health for Alaska Native people. She became the permanent president and CEO of the Consortium in June 2021. She left the Consortium in May 2024.

About Valerie Davidson
Early Life and Education
Valerie Davidson was born in Bethel, Alaska. Her mother is Yup'ik, an Alaska Native group. Her father is from Washington state. Valerie grew up in both Bethel and Aniak, Alaska. She is a member of the Orutsararmiut Native Council.
In 1992, Valerie graduated from the University of Alaska Southeast. She earned a degree in education. She also studied law at the University of New Mexico. She received her law degree in 1998. After finishing her studies, she worked as a lawyer. She worked for the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium.
Working for Health and People
Valerie Davidson has held many important jobs. She was a Senior Director for the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium. She also led a special group for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for ten years. This group helped guide healthcare programs.
Part of her work focused on helping veterans. She made it easier for them to get healthcare in tribal clinics. She also helped create dental programs in rural areas. These programs used special dental professionals to provide care.
In December 2014, Valerie Davidson became a Commissioner. She led the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services. During this time, she worked with Governor Bill Walker. They worked to expand healthcare access in Alaska.

Lieutenant Governor of Alaska
On October 16, 2018, Valerie Davidson became the Lieutenant Governor of Alaska. She took this role after Byron Mallott resigned. She was the first Alaska Native woman to be Lieutenant Governor.
She briefly served as Governor Bill Walker's running mate. This means she would have been his vice-governor if he won re-election. However, Governor Walker decided to leave the race a few days later. Valerie Davidson's term as Lieutenant Governor ended in December 2018.
Leading Universities and Health Organizations
In April 2020, Valerie Davidson became the 12th president of Alaska Pacific University. She was the first woman to lead this university.
In March 2021, she took a break from the university. She became the interim president of the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium. This organization provides healthcare to Alaska Native people. Her leadership at the Consortium became permanent in June 2021. At that time, she resigned from Alaska Pacific University. Valerie Davidson also became the CEO of the Consortium.
