Vandan-Ishiin Ichinkhorloo was a very important person in the history of medicine and education in Mongolia. She helped open doors for women in fields that were once mostly for men.

Becoming a Doctor

In 1942, a big step was taken in Mongolia when the first State University opened. This university had a special Medical Faculty, which is like a school for doctors. In 1947, the very first group of students finished their studies there.

Out of the nine students who graduated, five were women! Vandan-Ishiin Ichinkhorloo was one of these amazing women. This meant she was among the first five female doctors in Mongolia's history.

A Trailblazing Professor

Vandan-Ishiin Ichinkhorloo continued to achieve great things. In 1956, she was given a special role: she became a professor of Surgery at the Medical Faculty of the University. This was a huge accomplishment because it made her the very first female professor in all of Mongolia!

Just two years later, in 1958, she was recognized for her knowledge and hard work by being invited to join the Academy of Sciences of Mongolia. This is a group of very smart people who help advance science and learning in the country.
