This former community was about 5 miles (or 8 kilometers) south of another place called Isabella. Imagine a map of Kern County; Vaughn would have been a small dot near Isabella.
Vaughn's Post Office History
Even though Vaughn was small, it had its own post office! This post office served the community for a few years. It opened in 1897 and stayed open until 1906. After 1906, the mail service for the area was moved to a nearby community called Bodfish.
How Vaughn Got Its Name
The name "Vaughn" was chosen to honor the very first person who ran the post office there. His name was Edward Vaughn. So, the community was named after its first postmaster.
