Velázquez is a small town located in the Rocha Department in southeastern Uruguay.

Geography

This town is found where two roads, Route 15 and Route 13, meet. It is about 56 kilometers (around 35 miles) north of Rocha, which is the main city of the department. A stream called Arroyo India Muerta flows to the east of the town.

History

Velázquez officially became a "Pueblo" (which means village) on October 28, 1919. Later, on July 1, 1953, its status was upgraded to a "Villa" (meaning town).
