Ventura Pons facts for kids
Ventura Pons Sala (born 25 July 1945 – died 8 January 2024) was a famous film director from Spain. He made many movies, mostly in Catalan, but also some in Spanish and English. Ventura Pons directed 32 feature films, which are full-length movies. He is known as one of the most important Catalan film directors. His films were shown at nearly 810 international festivals and were watched by people in many countries around the world.
He was also the vice-president of the Spanish Film Academy. Many places around the world honored him and showed his films in special events called retrospectives. These included places like the ICA in London, the Lincoln Center in New York, and major film archives in cities like Los Angeles, Mexico, Buenos Aires, and Istanbul.
Ventura Pons also received special "Lifetime Achievement Awards" at film festivals. These awards celebrate a person's entire career and their big contributions to movies. He received them in cities like Chicago, Galway, and Turin.
In Spain, he earned many important awards too. These included the Catalan National Film Award, the Spanish Fine Arts Gold Medal, and the Gaudi Honorary Award from the Catalan Film Academy.
In 2012, the University of Colorado at Denver held a special meeting about his films. A book was even published about this meeting, called Ventura Pons: An Exceptional Gaze from the Catalan Cinema.
He also wrote some books himself. In 2011, he published his memories in a book called Mine (and the Others). Later, in 2017, he released I Have Tasted the Fruits of the Tree of Life. He also wrote a travel diary about a trip around the world, titled 54 Days and a Bit More, in 2012.
