Verónica Fernández Echegaray (born June 16, 1983 – died August 24, 2025), known professionally as Verónica Echegui, was a talented Spanish actress and film director. She became famous for her roles in many movies and TV shows. Verónica started her film career in 2006 with the movie My Name Is Juani. She also appeared in popular films like My Prison Yard (2008) and Kathmandu Lullaby (2012).

Her television work included series such as Fortitude and Intimacy. Verónica Echegui was not only an actress but also a director. Her first short film, Tótem Loba, won a Goya Award in 2022, which is a very important award in Spanish cinema. Throughout her career, she received many awards and nominations for her excellent acting.

Verónica Echegui was born in Madrid, Spain, on June 16, 1983. Her father worked as a lawyer, and her mother was a civil servant. She was very interested in acting from a young age. Verónica studied acting at the Real Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático in Spain. Later, she moved to London to continue her training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. To support herself while studying, she worked as a waitress.

Verónica Echegui started her acting career with small roles on television. She appeared in series like Una nueva vida and Paco y Veva. Her first big role in a movie was in 2006, in My Name Is Juani. She played Juani, a young woman who moves to Madrid to follow her dreams of becoming an actress. This role was very important for her career and earned her a nomination for a Goya Award.

Verónica continued to star in many interesting films. In 2008, she played a strong character in the prison drama My Prison Yard. Her performance in this film earned her another Goya Award nomination for Best Actress. She also learned an Argentine accent for her role in the film La casa de mi padre.

In 2009, Verónica worked on her first international film, a British comedy called Bunny and the Bull. She played a lively Spanish waitress.
