Vickie Winans (born Viviane Bowman on October 18, 1953) is a talented American singer, songwriter, music producer, comedian, and actress. She is well-known for her amazing work in gospel music.

In 1987, Vickie released her first album, Be Encouraged. It was a big hit! Later, in 1997, her live album Live in Detroit became very popular, especially with the song "Long as I Got King Jesus." She continued her success with Live in Detroit II in 1999.

After a short break, Vickie returned in 2003 with her album Bringing It All Together. This album was a huge success, staying at number one on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart for nine weeks. Her album Woman to Woman: Songs of Life (2006) also reached number one. In 2007, she started her own record label called Destiny Joy Records. Her album How I Got Over (2009) also topped the charts.

Vickie Winans has won eight Stellar Awards and has been nominated for seven Grammy Awards. People often call her "The Hardest Working Woman in Gospel Music" because of her dedication.

Early Life and Musical Beginnings

Viviane Bowman was born on October 18, 1953, in Detroit, Michigan. Her parents were Mattie and Aaron Bowman. She grew up with eleven brothers and sisters.

When she was just eight years old, Vickie joined the choir at International Gospel Center. As a teenager, she even started her own gospel group called International Sounds of Deliverance.

Career Journey

Early Albums and Challenges (1987–1993)

Vickie Winans released her first album, Be Encouraged, on July 31, 1987. It quickly became popular, reaching number three on the Billboard Top Spiritual Albums chart. The album featured popular songs like "We Shall Behold Him." Be Encouraged was even nominated for a Grammy Award in 1988.

In 1989, she released her second album, Total Victory. This album also received a Grammy nomination. After this, Vickie left Light Records. In 1989, she also performed in a Broadway show called Don't Get God Started.

Vickie signed with Geffen Records in 1990. Her third album, The Lady, came out in 1991. It included the song "Don't Throw Your Life Away."

Big Success and Live Albums (1994–2000)

On August 16, 1994, Vickie released her fourth album, Vickie Winans. It reached number ten on the Top Gospel Albums chart.

Her career really took off with her first live album, Live in Detroit, released in June 1997. The song "Long as I Got King Jesus" became a huge hit on gospel radio. Live in Detroit was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1998.

In April 1999, she released her second live album, Live in Detroit II. This album was very successful, selling over 112,000 copies in its first month. Live in Detroit II won several Stellar Awards in 2000, including Traditional Album of the Year. It also received another Grammy nomination.

Chart-Topping Albums (2002–Present)

After a four-year break, Vickie released her fifth studio album, Bringing It All Together, in May 2003. This album was her first to reach number one on Billboard's Top Gospel Albums chart, staying there for nine weeks! The song "Shake Yourself Loose" was very popular. Vickie won several Stellar Awards for this album, including Artist of the Year. She was also nominated for a Grammy Award in 2004.

In 2004, Vickie wrote and starred in her own play called Torn Between Two Loves. In January 2006, she hosted the 21st Annual Stellar Awards. Her sixth album, Woman to Woman: Songs of Life, was released in August 2006. It also reached number one on the Top Gospel Albums chart. The song "It's Alright" was a hit.

On October 2, 2007, she released her holiday album, Happy Holidays. Her eighth studio album, How I Got Over, came out on August 4, 2009. This album also hit number one on the Top Gospel Albums chart. The title song was a popular single. She received a Grammy nomination for this album in 2010.

In 1994, Vickie Winans started her own company called Viviane, Inc. This company helps manage her music publishing and booking services.

Destiny Joy Records

In 2005, Vickie founded her own record label, Destiny Joy Records. She named the label after her daughter, Destiny Joy, who passed away shortly after birth. The company helps produce Vickie's music and other projects. Happy Holidays (2007) was the first album released by Destiny Joy Records. The company also released a fitness film called Laugh While You Lose in 2008.

Personal Life

Vickie Winans has two sons. Her son Mario Mendell Brown became a singer and music producer, known as Mario Winans. She also has a son named Marvin "Coconut" Winans Jr.
