Vicky Angel is a popular children's book written by Jacqueline Wilson. It was first published in 2000. The story is about a young girl named Jade. She is trying to deal with the sadness of losing her best friend, Vicky. The book explores feelings of grief, friendship, and learning to move on.
Story Summary
Vicky and Jade are the very best of friends. Vicky is a lively and confident girl. Jade is shy and often lets Vicky lead the way. One day, they have a small argument about what club to join. Jade finally stands up for herself. Upset, Vicky runs into the road without looking and is hit by a car.
Jade goes with Vicky in the ambulance to the hospital. Sadly, Vicky dies from her injuries. Jade is very upset and runs away from the hospital in shock. But just an hour later, Vicky's ghost appears to Jade! Only Jade can see or hear her.
Jade goes to Vicky's funeral. Afterward, Vicky's ghost visits her again. When Jade goes back to school, she tries a fun-running club that Vicky had signed them up for. There, she becomes friends with Sam, who is often called Fatboy Sam. Jade first thinks Sam liked Vicky. But Sam tells her that he actually had a crush on Jade all along. Vicky's ghost isn't happy about this. She makes Jade say mean things to Sam, but he forgives her.
As Jade tries to live her life without Vicky, Vicky's ghost starts telling Jade what to do. Jade feels trapped and can't live her own life or make new friends. Jade decides to talk to a special helper who understands grief. This helper teaches Jade how to handle Vicky's ghost.
Later, Jade has to go to a court hearing about Vicky's death. She feels very guilty and sad when she tries to remember what happened. She runs out of the building and into the street, almost getting hit by a car. Vicky's ghost appears and pulls her back to safety. Vicky tells Jade that the accident was not Jade's fault. This helps Jade let go of her guilt. After saving Jade, Vicky grows angel wings. She can finally move on, floating into the sky. This allows Jade to move forward with her own life.

The Mystery of Vicky's Ghost
Before the book begins, Jacqueline Wilson, the author, mentions something interesting. Many people have asked her if Vicky's ghost is truly real in the story. Or, if it is just Jade's imagination. Wilson says that "You will have to make up your own mind!" This leaves it up to the reader to decide what they believe.
