Maharana Vikramatji of Porbandar State (1896)

Maharaja Rana Shri Vikramatji Khimojiraj Sahib (born 1819 – died 1900) was an important ruler. He led the Princely State of Porbandar. This state was part of India before it became fully independent. He belonged to the Jethwa Rajput family.

Early Life and Becoming a Ruler

Vikramatji was born in 1819 in Porbandar. His father was Maharaja Rana Shri Khimojiraj Haloji Sahib. He was the only son.

He became the ruler when his father died in 1831. He was still young at that time. So, his mother helped him rule as a regent until 1841. After that, he took full control of the state.

Challenges During His Reign

During his time as ruler, Porbandar faced some difficulties. There were problems with managing the state's money and other affairs. Because of these issues, Porbandar's status changed. In 1869, it went from being a "first-class" state to a "third-class" state.

Later, in 1886, the British government in Bombay took over the administration. This meant they managed the state's daily operations.

New Developments

Even with the challenges, something new happened during his reign. In 1888, a new railway line was opened. This was the Porbandar State Railway, which used a metre gauge track.

End of His Reign

Maharaja Rana Shri Vikramatji Khimojiraj Sahib passed away on April 21, 1900. His grandson, Bhavsinhji Madhavsinhji, became the next ruler of Porbandar.
