How Villa Nueva Started
Most towns in this province, especially those with 200 to 1000 people, grew because of train lines or clearing forests. However, Villa Nueva is different. Its story began with a big flood.
A New Home After a Flood
The people who lived in a town called Villa Loreto had to move. Their original town was washed away by a flood from the Dulce River. So, they moved and settled on the eastern side of the same river. This new settlement became what we know today as Villa Nueva.
Protecting the Town from the River
The Dulce River's path naturally shifted over time, moving closer and closer to Villa Nueva. This could have caused more floods and problems for the town.
Building River Defenses
To protect the town, important work began in 2004. The goal was to guide the river back into an older channel. They also built special defenses to keep the town safe from the river's waters. These projects helped protect Villa Nueva from future floods.
Population of Villa Nueva
According to information from 2010, Villa Nueva had a population of 303 people. It is a small community, but it has a unique history shaped by the river it lives beside.
