Villanueva is a city and a municipality in Honduras. It is located in the Cortés Department. In 2023, about 190,085 people lived there.
Villanueva is about 20 miles south of San Pedro Sula. It sits on a main highway. This road connects San Pedro Sula with Tegucigalpa, the capital city of Honduras. Towns like Dos Caminos are also along this important route.
The area around Villanueva has many factories and farms. Most people work in factories that make things like textiles and plastics. Sugarcane is the main crop grown here. When sugarcane is processed, it can create a dark dust. Locals sometimes call this "el nieve negra," which means "black snow."
People of Villanueva
Most people living in Villanueva are of Latin descent. There are also small groups of Garifuna people. The Garifuna are descendants of African and indigenous people from the Caribbean.
