Villarsia is a group of water-loving plants. These plants have beautiful flowers. They belong to a plant family called Menyanthaceae. The name Villarsia comes from a French botanist, Dominique Villars, who lived a long time ago (1745–1814).
Villarsia plants grow in wet places like swamps and bogs. They have leaves that grow from the bottom of the plant. Their flowers grow in a special cluster called a panicle, which looks like a branched stalk with many flowers. Each flower has five parts, and they can be yellow or white. The petals of the flowers often have small, wing-like parts. Some Villarsia species that used to be in Australia are now part of a different plant group called Ornduffia.
