Vilma Glücklich (1872–1927) was an important person from Hungary. She worked to make schools better, promote peace, and fight for women's rights. In 1896, she made history by becoming the first woman to graduate from a Hungarian university. She earned her degree from the Faculty of Philosophy at the Budapest State University.

Vilma Glücklich was one of the most important leaders of the women's movement in Hungary. She worked alongside another famous activist, Rosika Schwimmer.

Early Life and Education

Vilma Glücklich was born in 1872. She was very smart and wanted to learn. She was the first woman ever allowed to study at a university in Hungary. This was a big step for women's education. In 1896, she also became the first woman to finish her university studies there. After graduating, she worked as a teacher.

Fighting for Women's Rights

Vilma Glücklich started working with trade unions in 1902. These groups helped workers get fair treatment. Soon after, she became very active in the women's movement.

In 1904, she helped start the Hungarian Feminist Association (Feministák Egyesülete). This group worked to improve the lives of women. She was also elected to a leadership role in the National Association of Female Employees in 1902.

In 1913, Vilma Glücklich and Rosika Schwimmer hosted a big meeting in Budapest. It was the 7th congress of the International Alliance for Women Suffrage. This group worked for women to get the right to vote.

Working for Peace

During World War I, Vilma Glücklich worked hard for peace. She believed that wars should stop. In 1915, she helped create the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom. This group wanted to prevent future wars.

In 1918, she became one of only two women active in the democratic government in Hungary. However, because of her work for peace and democracy, she faced problems. In 1921, she was forced to leave her job and her home country. She then moved to Switzerland.

Vilma Glücklich continued her work for peace in Switzerland. From 1924 to 1926, she served as the co-founder and secretary-general of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom. She passed away in 1927.
