Violant of Castile facts for kids
Violant of Castile was a Spanish princess, also known as Infanta Violant. She was born in 1265. Her parents were King Alfonso X of Castile and Queen Violant of Aragon. Violant became the Lady of Biscay when she married Diego López V de Haro.
Her Life as a Princess
Violant was the daughter of King Alfonso X of Castile and Queen Violant of Aragon. Her grandparents on her father's side were King Ferdinand III of Castile and Elisabeth of Swabia. On her mother's side, her grandparents were King James I of Aragon and Violant of Hungary.
In 1272, when Violant was about seven years old, there was a plan for her to marry Theobald. He was the son and heir of King Henry I of Navarre. This marriage would have created an alliance between Castile and Navarre. However, Theobald sadly died in 1273 after falling from a castle wall. So, the marriage never happened.
Later, in 1282, Violant married Diego López V de Haro. He was an important noble known as the Lord of Biscay.
The exact date of Violant's death is not known. She passed away sometime between 1287 and 1308. After her death, she was buried in a monastery in Burgos, Spain. Her husband was later buried there too.
