Violet McNeish Kay (born June 18, 1914, died 1971) was a talented Scottish artist. She was known for painting beautiful landscapes using both oil paints and watercolours.
About Violet Kay
Violet was born in Glasgow, Scotland. Her father, James Kay, was also a well-known artist.
She studied art at the Glasgow School of Art from 1931 to 1933. In 1935, she joined the Glasgow Society of Lady Artists. This group was for women artists. Later, in 1948, she won a special prize from them called the Lauder Award.
In 1948, Violet became a member of the Royal Scottish Watercolour Society. She often showed her paintings with this group. She also displayed about sixty paintings at the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts. She even showed her work at least once with the Aberdeen Artists Society.
Important groups bought her artwork. The Pilgrim Trust and the local government in Paisley both bought some of her paintings.
Violet Kay lived in Garelochhead. She loved to paint the landscapes of Scotland's west coast. She used bold and strong colours in her paintings. She passed away in Helensburgh.
