Virginia Dighero facts for kids
Virginia Dighero (born December 24, 1891 – died December 28, 2005) was an Italian woman who lived for a very long time. People who live to be over 110 years old are called supercentenarians. Virginia was married to someone with the last name Zolezzi.
On September 14, 2005, Virginia became the person of Italian background who had lived the longest. She broke the record set by Amalia Ruggieri Barone, who had moved from Italy to the United States. Virginia Dighero-Zolezzi passed away on December 28, 2005, due to a health issue affecting her blood flow.
At the time of her death, she was the oldest person ever officially recorded from Italy. She was 114 years and 4 days old. She held this amazing record for more than five years. Later, another Italian woman named Venere Pizzinato lived even longer, passing Virginia's record on November 28, 2010. Virginia was also the oldest person living in Europe whose age was officially confirmed.
