Early Life and Family
Virginia Sandars was born on March 17, 1828. Her full name was Lady Virginia Frances Zerlina Taylour. She was born in Headford, County Meath, Ireland.
Her parents were Olivia Stevenson and Thomas Taylour. Her father was the 2nd Marquess of Headfort. A Marquess is a noble title, like a duke or an earl. Virginia was one of nine children in her family. Sadly, her mother passed away in 1834. Virginia grew up in a large home called Headfort House in County Meath.
Marriage and Family Life
Virginia married Joseph Sandars on July 16, 1850. Joseph Sandars was a Member of Parliament (MP). An MP is a person elected to represent a group of people in the government. He represented a place called Yarmouth in the British Parliament from 1848 to 1852.
An Irish artist named Elish Lamont painted a small portrait of Virginia Sandars in 1858. These small paintings are called miniatures.
Writing Career
Virginia Sandars was a well-known author. She wrote several books and many short stories. She also wrote for different literary magazines and journals.
One of her stories, 'A Story of the People’s Palace,' was sent to a magazine called Belgravia. This magazine was started in 1866 by another famous writer, Mary Elizabeth Braddon.
Other Activities
Virginia Sandars was also involved in helping others. She was part of the management board for a company called Madame Devey’s Company. This company was created to help protect women and women workers in the fashion industry in London.
In 1887, she attended a meeting of the Conservative Primrose League. This group supported the Conservative political party in Britain. At the meeting, they discussed important policies about Ireland.
Later Life
Virginia Sandars lived a long life. She passed away on January 26, 1922, in London. She was 93 years old.
