Vitalite is a popular spread that you can put on your toast or bread. It's made from sunflower oil, which comes from sunflowers! This tasty spread is produced in a town called Kirkby in the UK.
The Story of Vitalite
Vitalite first started being made in 1983. A company called Kraft General Foods originally produced it. Later, in July 1996, another company named St Ivel bought Vitalite. Then, in November 2002, Dairy Crest took over St Ivel, and Vitalite became part of Dairy Crest.
In 2008, Vitalite was changed to be a dairy-free spread. This means it doesn't contain any milk products. Because it's dairy-free, it's a great choice for vegans. Vegans are people who choose not to eat any animal products.
Vitalite's Fun Adverts
In the 1980s, Vitalite had a very famous advertising campaign in the United Kingdom. These adverts were really fun! They showed dancing sunflowers and a singing sun. The sun sang a funny version of a popular song called "Israelites" by Desmond Dekker.
This advertising campaign ran for many years, all the way until 1994. One of the lines from the song in the advert went like this:
- "Wake up in the morning wantin' some breakfast. What sunflower spread do I lay on my bread? Ohhh, Ohhh, Vitalite."
