About Viveca Lärn

Her Early Life

Viveca Lärn grew up in Gothenburg, Sweden. Her father, Hubert Lärn, was a journalist and cartoonist. Her mother, Katarina, loved art and books. Their home was full of imagination and learning.

Viveca learned to read and write very early. She often felt her parents were more like friends than strict grown-ups. Instead of playing games or going to parties, she liked to spend time by a creek near her home. There, she would use her imagination and dream up stories.

When she started school, Viveca Lärn skipped the first grade. She didn't always enjoy primary school or the girls' school she attended. However, she got good grades in most subjects. Her teachers sometimes thought her essays had "too much imagination."

Becoming a Writer

Viveca's teenage years became much better when she started high school. She enjoyed spending time with friends in Götaplatsen and visiting popular dance clubs.

When she was just twelve years old, she got her first writing job! Her uncle worked at a newspaper called Gothenburg-Tidningen. He needed help translating texts for comic strips, and Viveca helped him out.

Later, her family moved to San Francisco. Viveca returned to Gothenburg and lived with her aunt and uncle, who became like second parents to her. She knew from a young age that she wanted to be a writer. In high school, she even won an essay contest, and the prize was a trip to France!
