Vivien ap Rhys Pryce was born in Woking, a town in Surrey, England. She loved art from a young age. From 1955 to 1957, she studied at the City and Guilds of London Art School. After that, she continued her art education at the Edinburgh College of Art. There, she learned from a famous sculptor named Eric Schilsky.
Vivien was very good at her studies. In 1957, she won a special scholarship that allowed her to travel and learn more about art. She won more awards in 1961. In 1964, she received the Feodora Gleichen Award from the Royal Society of British Sculptors. This award showed how talented she was.
In 1965, Vivien became an Associate member of the Royal Society of British Sculptors. Later, in 1972, she was chosen to be a Fellow. This means she became a very important and respected member of the group.
