About Vladimir Makanin
Vladimir Makanin studied at Moscow State University. He graduated from the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics. After his studies, he worked as a teacher at a Military Academy until the early 1960s.
In 1963, he decided to study writing and filmmaking. He attended the High Courses for Scriptwriters and Film Directors. Later, he worked for a publishing company called Sovietskiy Pisatel, which means The Soviet Writer.
His First Books
Makanin published his very first book in 1965. This was the start of his long writing career. He quickly became known for his unique way of telling stories.
