Universal's Volcano Bay Water Theme Park, often called Volcano Bay, is a fun water park in Orlando, Florida. It's part of the Universal Orlando Resort. This park has a cool tropical theme, making you feel like you're on an island.
Universal Parks & Resorts owns and runs Volcano Bay. It opened on May 25, 2017. This park took the place of another water park called Wet 'n Wild. Volcano Bay was the first water park Universal built all by itself!
The park's main feature is a huge, artificial volcano named "Krakatau." It stands about 200-foot-tall (61 m). This volcano is so important, it's even on the park's logo! Inside Krakatau, you'll find exciting slides. One of them is Ko'okiri Body Plunge, which is 125 feet tall. It's one of the tallest body slides in America! It's also the first slide to go through a pool full of guests.
Volcano Bay uses a special wristband called TapuTapu. You get one when you enter the park. This wristband helps you hold your spot in line for rides. It also lets you pay for food, drinks, and souvenirs if you link a credit card to it. Plus, TapuTapu can make cool things happen around the park, like setting off water springs or lighting up special effects!

Park History
In February 2015, Universal Orlando Resort shared its plans for a new water park. It was going to be built near the Cabana Bay Beach Resort. Even though construction had already started, Universal officially announced the park and its name, Volcano Bay, on May 28, 2015.
In June 2015, it was announced that Volcano Bay would replace the old Wet 'n Wild water park. Wet 'n Wild closed its doors on December 31, 2016.
Volcano Bay was built on about 53 acres (21 ha) of land. It cost around 600 million US dollars to build. Early drawings showed a thrilling slide coming from the main volcano. They also showed a wave pool and other water slides. Plans included a lazy river and rapids ride too.
On June 21, 2016, Universal shared more details about Volcano Bay. They talked about the rides and said the park would open on June 1, 2017. Later, on January 25, 2017, Universal announced the grand opening would be even sooner, on May 25, 2017. And on that day, Volcano Bay officially opened its gates to everyone!
Exciting Attractions
Volcano Bay has four main areas, each inspired by different Polynesian islands and cultures. The giant "Krakatau" volcano is the park's heart. It's 200-foot-tall (61 m) and has waterfalls during the day. At night, it looks like lava is flowing down its sides!
Krakatau Volcano Rides
This area is inside the park's famous volcano. It has some very unique slides!
- Krakatau Aqua Coaster: This is a special water coaster. Riders go inside the Krakatau volcano and then splash through a waterfall. It uses special motors to push you uphill!
- Ko’okiri Body Plunge: Get ready for a super-fast, nearly straight-down slide! You start on a trap-door that opens beneath you. You drop 125 feet (38 m) through the Krakatau volcano. This slide is also special because it goes through a pool where other guests are swimming! It's one of the tallest drop capsule slides in the world.
- Kala and Tai Nui Serpentine Body Slides: These are two twisting body slides that start with a trap-door. Like Ko'okiri Body Plunge, they are 125 feet tall and are among the tallest drop capsule slides in the world.
- Punga Racers: Race your friends on these four-lane body slides!
Wave Village Fun
Wave Village is a great spot to relax and enjoy the sun. You can even rent private cabanas here.
- Waturi Beach: This is the park's main wave pool, perfect for splashing and riding waves.
- The Reef: A calmer pool next to Waturi Beach, with fewer waves for a more peaceful swim.
- Ohyah and Ohno Drop Slides: These are body slides that send you on tall drops into splash pools.
- Puka Uli Lagoon: A relaxing pool where you can simply chill out.
River Village Adventures
The River Village area has attractions for families and younger kids.
- Kopiko Wai Winding River: This is a lazy river that floats you through Krakatau volcano. You'll see cool decorated caves and fun special effects along the way.
- Tot Tiki Reef: A fun play area made just for toddlers.
- Runamukka Reef: This is a three-story water fortress with its own small slides and lots of water fun.
- Honu: One of two slides where you ride in a multi-passenger raft. It sweeps you up two huge walls!
- Ika Moana: This is another exciting multi-passenger raft slide.
Rainforest Village Thrills
This part of the park has many thrilling slides, including big raft rides for groups.
- Maku: This multi-passenger raft slide is the first of its kind in North America! It has three big, banked "saucer" shapes that you spin through.
- Puihi: On this ride, multi-passenger rafts drop into tunnels, then two funnels, and a final big drop.
- TeAwa The Fearless River: This raft ride feels like you're white-water rafting on a wild river!
- Taniwha Tubes: These are four raft slides where you can ride alone or with a partner.
