Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Votaw is a small place in Hardin County, Texas, in the United States. It's called an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. Instead, it's part of the larger county. Votaw is also located within the Beaumont–Port Arthur Metropolitan Statistical Area. This is a way to group nearby cities and towns that are connected by things like jobs and travel.

How Votaw Got Its Name

Votaw was named after a man named Clark M. Votaw. He was an important person in the early days of the area. Mr. Votaw worked for a company called Kirby Lumber Company. He helped manage their land. He was also a vice president for the Santa Fe Townsite Company. This company was in charge of planning and setting up the lots where homes and buildings would be built in the community.
