Västerås IK (which stands for Västerås Ishockey klubb) is a professional ice hockey team. They are from the city of Västerås in Sweden. The team currently plays in HockeyAllsvenskan, which is the second-highest league in Swedish ice hockey.

Västerås IK played for 12 seasons in the top Swedish league, called Elitserien. This was from the 1988–89 season until the 1999–2000 season. After that, the club had some financial problems. It then joined with its junior club, Västerås IK Ungdom. In 2005, this combined club changed its name to VIK Västerås HK. In 2018, after playing one year in the third-tier league, Hockeyettan, the club changed its name back to the original Västerås IK.

Västerås IK was first started in 1913. The club began playing ice hockey in 1939. The ice hockey part of Västerås IK later became a separate section. This section was active until the year 2000.

At that time, the club faced difficulties. The main team then moved to the junior club, Västerås IK Ungdom. This junior club changed its name to VIK Hockey in 2005. In 2018, the club decided to go back to its original name, Västerås IK.

Team Performance Highlights

Västerås IK has a long history in Swedish ice hockey. They have spent many seasons in the top two leagues. The team played in the highest league, Elitserien, for 12 years.

After that, they mostly competed in HockeyAllsvenskan, the second-tier league. They often finished in the top half of the standings. For example, in the 2014–15 season, they finished first in HockeyAllsvenskan. They also tried to qualify for the top league several times. In 2017–18, they played in HockeyEttan (Tier 3) and quickly moved back up to HockeyAllsvenskan.
