Wacky Wafers facts for kids
Wacky Wafers are a fun candy made by Leaf Brands. These candies are shaped like a large coin, similar to an American half dollar. They come in five yummy flavors: banana, green apple, watermelon, orange, and strawberry. You can usually find them in a clear plastic wrapper. Inside, you will see a long strip of colorful, flavored Wacky Wafers.
The Sweet History of Wacky Wafers
Wacky Wafers have been around for a while, changing hands and shapes over the years. They were first made by a company called Breaker Confections. This company licensed the "Willy Wonka" name to connect with the popular movie.
Early Flavors and Shapes
When Wacky Wafers first came out, they had four main flavors. Soon after, a "NEW GREEN APPLE!" flavor was added. Over time, many other flavors appeared, including pineapple, cherry, grape, and blue raspberry.
The original Wacky Wafers looked much like the ones Leaf Brands makes today. They were flat and round. Later, a smaller version was made. These tiny wafers came in a box, similar to another candy called Bottle Caps. Before they stopped being made for a while, their shape changed again. They became more like the shape of Flintstones vitamins.
Changes in Ownership
In 1980, Breaker Confections changed its name to Willy Wonka Brands. Then, in 1988, a big company called Nestlé bought the Willy Wonka brand. When Nestlé took over, Wacky Wafers were no longer made as a regular candy.
But good news for candy fans! Wacky Wafers were brought back in 2017 by Leaf Brands. Now, they are available again for everyone to enjoy.
