The Sweet History of Wacky Wafers
Wacky Wafers have an interesting past! Before Leaf Brands started making them, they were part of The Willy Wonka Candy Company. When they first came out, Wacky Wafers had four main flavors. Soon after, a new green apple flavor was added, which was very popular.
Changes in Candy Shape and Size
Over time, Wacky Wafers changed their look a few times. At first, they were similar to the ones Leaf Brands sells today. Later, they became smaller, like the candies called Bottle Caps, and came in a box. Even later, they changed shape completely, looking more like Flintstones vitamins.
When Wacky Wafers Disappeared and Came Back
Wacky Wafers were stopped for a while when a company called Nestlé bought the Willy Wonka brand. But good news for candy fans! In 2017, Leaf Brands, LLC brought Wacky Wafers back, and they are now available again.
Who Made Wacky Wafers?
The first company to make Wacky Wafers was Breaker Confections. This company was located in Itasca, Illinois, near Chicago. Breaker Confections got permission to use the "Willy Wonka" name. This was a smart idea because it connected the candy to the popular movie.
From Breaker to Wonka to Nestlé
In 1980, Breaker Confections changed its name to Willy Wonka Brands. Then, eight years later, in 1988, Nestlé bought the company. This is why Wacky Wafers were stopped for some time before Leaf Brands brought them back.
