Wade Nobles facts for kids

About Wade W. Nobles
Wade W. Nobles' grandparents were born into slavery in America. His parents, Annie Mae Cotton and John Nobles, chose the name Wade for him. This name means "someone who can get through tough situations, like mud or snow, or even ignorance."
Nobles studied psychology and earned his PhD degree from Stanford University. He is married to Vera Lynn Winmilawe Nokwanda DeMoultrie, who also has a PhD. They have five children and 11 grandchildren. Nobles follows the Ifá spiritual system.
His Work in Psychology
Wade W. Nobles started and leads an organization called the Institute for the Advanced Study of Black Family, Life and Culture, Inc. This group is in Oakland, California. Its main goal is to make life better for Black families and to celebrate Black culture. The institute helps people and also does scientific research.
Nobles was one of the first members of the Association of Black Psychologists. He was even the national President of this group from 1994 to 1995. As a social psychologist, Nobles studies many interesting topics. He looks into African psychology, which is about how Black people think about themselves. He also studies how African-American families work, and how education, healing, and spirituality are important in African-centered ways.
Nobles also helps lead a project called the “Enyimnyam Project.” This project aims to connect Africans who live in different parts of the world (called the African diaspora) with Africans who live on the continent of Africa.
