The Waernicke–Hille House and Store are two old buildings. They are located near a place called Archer's Fork in Washington County, Ohio, United States. These buildings are important because of their history.

Exploring the Waernicke–Hille Buildings

The house and store are about 150 feet apart. You can find them along Township Road 36. Both buildings were built for the family of Ernst Waernicke. He was a German settler who was one of the first to grow tobacco in the area.

Tobacco Farming in Ohio

Ernst Waernicke and other German settlers helped the area grow a lot. They started growing tobacco in the 1850s. This new crop brought many changes to Independence Township.

What Makes These Buildings Special?

The house and the store look quite different from each other. The store is made of wood, which is called a frame structure. The house, however, is built with bricks. It sits on a strong foundation made of sandstone.

A Unique Brick House

The house was built in 1864. It was the very first brick house in all of Independence Township. This makes it a special example of early building styles in the area.

Listed on the National Register
