Wakhanaq facts for kids
Wakhanaq, also known as Wak'a'nakw, was a historic village of the Kwakwaka'wakw people. Its name means "real river" in the Kwak'wala language. This village was located in a beautiful spot on the north side of Gilford Island, right at the end of Wakhana Bay.

This village was an important home for different groups of the Kwakwaka'wakw people. These groups included the (Southern) Kwakiutl, the Kwicksataineuk, and the Kweeha (Kwiakah). A famous researcher named Franz Boas wrote that the Kwakiutl and Kweeha people originally came from this very place.
