What is the Walk of the Heroines?
This 18,000-square-foot park is found along Southwest Harrison between 10th and 11th Avenues. It's a place where visitors can learn about and remember the many contributions of women.
Honoring Women's Contributions
The park features walls where the names of over 1,000 women are carved. These names represent women who have made a big difference in various fields.
Who are Some of the Honored Women?
Some well-known women honored here include Hillary Clinton, who is a famous American politician. Also remembered are Amy Jacques Garvey, a writer and activist, and Barbara Roberts, a former governor of Oregon. Mother Joseph Pariseau, a nun who helped build hospitals and schools, is also honored.
Designing the Memorial
Many people helped create the Walk of the Heroines. John Laursen contributed to the project. Linda Stein designed the memorial's unique bronze sculptures, which are shaped like torsos.
