Walter Bell's Early Life and Education
Walter Bell was born in a town called Vredenburgh, Alabama. When he was a child, his family moved to Mobile, Alabama. He went to college at Spring Hill College. He finished his studies there in 1983.
Walter Bell's Career Journey
Starting in Banking and Insurance
From 1979 to 1983, Walter Bell worked at the First National Bank of Mobile. He was a branch manager there. After that, from 1983 to 2003, he worked for the Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York. He was a vice president at that company.
Becoming Insurance Commissioner
In 2003, the governor of Alabama, Bob Riley, chose Walter Bell to be the Alabama Commissioner of Insurance. This job involves overseeing insurance companies in the state. He held this important role until 2008.
Later Roles and Board Positions
After leaving his government job, Walter Bell became the Chairman of Swiss Re America Holding Corporation. He worked there from 2008 to 2012.
Today, Walter Bell is on the board of directors for several organizations. He is a board member of the Bermuda Monetary Authority. This makes him the first international board member for that group. He also helps oversee the Mobile Area Water and Sewer System. Plus, he is on the board for the Mobile Regional Airport.
