Walter Pye (Royalist) facts for kids
Sir Walter Pye (born 1610, died 1659) was an English politician from The Mynde, Much Dewchurch, Herefordshire. He was a member of the House of Commons at different times between 1628 and 1640. Sir Walter Pye supported the King's side, known as the Royalists, during the English Civil War.
Life and Times
Walter Pye was the son of another man named Walter Pye. In 1628, when he was 18, he was chosen to be a Member of Parliament for Brecon. He served in Parliament until 1629. At that time, King Charles I decided to rule England without Parliament for eleven years.
In April 1640, Sir Walter Pye was again elected as a Member of Parliament. This time, he represented Herefordshire in a short meeting of Parliament. He also held an important local job called High Steward of Leominster. Sir Walter was a strong supporter of the King. Because of this, he lost his job in 1648 when the King's side was losing the war.
His Family
Sir Walter Pye married a woman named Elizabeth Sanders. They had three children together. His children remained Catholic, a different religion from the King's official church. His son, also named Walter, stayed loyal to the Stuart family, who were the kings of England. This son lived in other countries and was given the special title of Lord Kilpec.
