Walter Scott, 1st Earl of Buccleuch (born before 1606 – died 20 November 1633) was an important Scottish nobleman. He held the titles of Earl of Buccleuch and Baron Scott of Buccleuch.

Who Was Walter Scott?

Walter Scott was born as the son of Walter Scott, who was the 1st Lord Scott of Buccleuch. His mother was Mary Kerr. When his father passed away on December 15, 1611, young Walter took over his father's title as Lord Scott of Buccleuch.

Becoming an Earl

Walter Scott received an even higher honor on May 16, 1619. He was given the title of Earl of Buccleuch. This also came with two other titles: Baron Scott of Whitchester and Eskdaill. This showed his growing importance in Scotland.

In 1624, some people from the Eliot family planned to harm the Earl. However, their plan did not succeed, and he remained safe.

Walter Scott was a military leader. In 1629, he led a group of Scottish soldiers who were helping Holland. They fought against the Spanish army. He was part of a major battle called the Siege of 's-Hertogenbosch. This was a very important event where the Dutch forces successfully captured a city from the Spanish.

Walter Scott passed away on November 20, 1633, in London. His body was meant to be buried in Hawick, Scotland. However, the ship carrying his body faced a big storm. The storm pushed the ship all the way to the coast of Norway. Because of this delay, he was not buried until June 11, 1634.
