About Warfield

Warfield is a quiet community in Virginia. It is not a big city or a formally organized town. Instead, it is a collection of homes and people living together in one area.

Where is Warfield?

Warfield is found in Brunswick County, Virginia. This county is in the southern part of Virginia. It is a rural area, meaning it has more open land and fewer large buildings.

How Many People Live There?

The government counts how many people live in different places. This count is called a census. In 2010, the census showed that 115 people lived in Warfield. This makes it a very small community.

Warfield and the Railroad

Warfield's history is closely tied to the railroad. A train line once ran right through the community. This railroad helped Warfield grow and connect with other places.

Building the Railroad

A railroad company called the Richmond, Petersburg and Carolina Railroad built the line through Warfield. This project finished in 1900. The tracks connected Petersburg, Virginia to a place called Ridgeway Junction in North Carolina.

The Railroad's Journey

Soon after it was built, the railroad became part of a larger company. This company was known as the Seaboard Air Line, or SAL for short. By 1914, a train station was built in Warfield. At that time, about 100 people lived in the community. Over the years, the railroad line changed names again. It was sometimes called the "S" line after more companies joined together.

What Happened to the Railroad?

The railroad continued to operate for many years. However, by the 1980s, the trains stopped running on this line. Today, the part of the railroad that goes through Warfield is no longer used. It is an abandoned section of what was once a busy train route.
