About Warrayu
The Warrayu community was started in the early 1970s. The people here have strong cultural and family ties. These connections are with the Forrest River Mission community. That community is also known as Oombulgurri. Many older people in Warrayu originally came from the lands near Oombulgurri.
Native Title Rights
Native title means that Aboriginal people have special rights. These rights are over their traditional lands and waters. They come from their traditional laws and customs. The Warrayu community's land is part of a native title claim. This claim is called Balangarra 3. It officially recognizes their connection to the land.
How Warrayu is Managed
The Warrayu Aboriginal Corporation manages the community. This group is officially set up under a special law. This law helps Aboriginal groups manage their own affairs. They work to make decisions for the community.
Planning for the Future
The Warrayu community has a special plan for its area. It is called Warrayu Layout Plan No.1. This plan helps decide how the community will grow. It follows rules set by the State Planning Policy. The community agreed to this plan in 2003. The Western Australian Planning Commission also approved it.
