Warren Stormes Hale (born in 1791, died in 1872) was a very important person in London. He became the Lord Mayor of London, which is like being the city's main leader. He also helped start the famous City of London School.
Warren Stormes Hale's Early Life
Warren Stormes Hale was born on February 2, 1791. When he was young, he sadly lost his parents. He started working as an apprentice candlemaker, also known as a chandler. This means he learned how to make and sell candles. He became so good at it that he later led the Tallow Chandlers' Company twice. This was a group for people who worked with tallow, a type of animal fat used to make candles.
Making a Difference in London
Warren Stormes Hale was elected to the Common Council of the City of London in 1825. This council helped manage the city. Later, in 1856, he became an Alderman, which is a senior member of the city council. He then served as the Sheriff in 1858 and finally became the Lord Mayor of London in 1864.
He is also known as the "second founder" of the City of London School. The school was first started by John Carpenter. Warren Stormes Hale used extra money from Carpenter's original gift to help the school grow and become even better.
His Legacy and Passing
Warren Stormes Hale passed away on August 23, 1872. He was buried in the Highgate Cemetery (West), a famous cemetery in London.
