A Look Back: The Clubhouse's Story
Building a Community Hub
The Washington Park Clubhouse is part of a public golf course. This golf course first opened way back in 1922. The clubhouse itself was built a bit later, in 1936.
How It Was Built
Building the clubhouse was a big project. It was partly funded by something called the Works Progress Administration. This was a government program in the 1930s. It helped create jobs for many people during a tough time.
A Historic Landmark
Because of its history and unique design, the clubhouse is considered very important. It was added to the State Register of Historic Places in 2002. Then, in 2003, it was also added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's recognized as a special place across the whole country!
