Water Avenue Coffee is a coffee shop company with several locations in Portland, Oregon. It is known for being a "micro-roaster," which means it roasts its own coffee beans in small batches. This process helps make sure the coffee is always fresh and flavorful. One of the co-founders of the company is Matt Milletto.
History of the Coffee Shop
Water Avenue Coffee first opened its doors in 2009. Over the years, the company grew and tried new things to serve its customers.
Early Years and Growth
In 2013, the company launched a mobile coffee truck, allowing it to sell coffee in different places around the city. Two years later, in 2015, Water Avenue Coffee opened a new roasting facility. A roasting facility is a special place where green coffee beans are heated to bring out the rich flavors people enjoy.
That same year, the company started selling a unique product: barrel-aged coffee. This is coffee that gets extra flavor from being stored in barrels, similar to how some foods and drinks are aged.
New Food and Locations
In 2016, the main cafe on Water Avenue introduced a bigger food menu created by Chef Ryan Kennedy. This gave customers more options for meals and snacks to go with their coffee.
Also in 2016, Water Avenue Coffee opened its second coffee shop in downtown Portland. This expansion helped the company reach more people in the city.
In August 2024, the company was sold to another business called Harder Day Coffee Company.
