Wave Breaker: The Rescue Coaster at RCDB |
Wave Breaker: The Rescue Coaster is an exciting roller coaster at SeaWorld San Antonio in Texas. It's special because it launches you forward not once, but twice! This ride is all about SeaWorld's amazing animal rescue work.
Opened in 2017, it was the first "jet ski" roller coaster in North America. Its ride cars look just like the jet skis used by SeaWorld's rescue team. Most of the track for Wave Breaker is built right over the park's big lake.

Building Wave Breaker: The Rescue Coaster
To build this unique coaster, part of the park's lake had to be drained. Workers used special inflatable rubber dams to keep the rest of the lake full. This allowed them to work on the coaster's foundations in a dry area.
SeaWorld San Antonio closes every year from January to late February. During this time, the park updated the area around the coaster's entrance. SeaWorld often shared videos of the construction progress on their YouTube channel. The roller coaster officially opened to guests on June 16, 2017.
What's the Ride Like?
When you get on Wave Breaker, you'll sit down and be safely secured. The ride then leaves the station and goes into a special tunnel. Inside, a video plays to get you ready for your mission.
After the video, the train launches forward very quickly! It speeds up a small hill, called a camelback hump. Then, it glides smoothly across the surface of the park's lake. This part of the ride feels just like you're on a real jet ski!
Halfway through your adventure, the train launches again. This second launch takes you up the tallest point of the coaster, which is 61 feet high. You'll cross a small part of the track that's on a tiny island in the lake. After a few more exciting seconds, your rescue mission ends as the train returns to the station.
Wave Breaker Facts and Figures
Coaster Statistics
Wave Breaker stands 61 feet (about 18.6 meters) tall. It can reach a top speed of 44 miles per hour (about 71 kilometers per hour). The coaster's track is 2,600 feet long, which is almost half a mile! It is held up by 300 strong concrete pillars.
The Ride Trains
The coaster uses up to three trains at a time. Each train has eight rows, and two riders can sit in each row. This means 16 people can ride on one train. The ride is designed to carry about 886 riders every hour.
Riders are kept safe with lap restraints. These trains are specially designed to look like jet skis. This fits perfectly with the coaster's rescue theme.
The Rescue Theme
Wave Breaker is designed to make you feel like you're part of SeaWorld's animal rescue team. Most of the coaster's track is built just above the lake's water. This makes you feel like you are speeding across the water on an important mission to help animals in need.
