Weaver & Devore Trading is a special family-owned store in Yellowknife, Canada. It's known as a general store, which means it sells many different kinds of things. This store has been around for a very long time, since 1936! It was started by two friends, Harry Weaver and Ellis "Bud" Devore. They were fur traders and also skilled at using boats.

A Store with a Long History

How It All Began

Harry Weaver and Bud Devore came from a place called Peace River, Alberta. In 1936, they made their first trip to Yellowknife Bay. They came because there was a lot of mining happening there that summer. People needed supplies, and Harry and Bud were ready to help.

The very next year, in 1937, they built a strong log cabin to be their permanent trading post. Yellowknife was growing fast and becoming an important place for business. Because of this, their store became very popular and busy.

Changes Over the Years

In 1954, Bud Devore decided to sell his part of the business. But the store kept the name Weaver & Devore. When Harry Weaver passed away in 1957, his family continued to run the store. It has stayed in the Weaver family ever since!

For many years, the store was involved in fur trading. But in the 1980s, they stopped trading furs. Instead, they started focusing on other things.

What You Can Find There Today

Today, Weaver & Devore Trading is a modern general store. They sell all sorts of things, like everyday goods, fresh fruits and vegetables, and even special "bush orders" for people living in remote areas. They also have a great selection of outdoor clothing, perfect for the northern climate.

The store moved to its current location in the 1960s. It's just across Weaver Drive from where the first log cabin store was. That original 1937 building is now a famous local restaurant called Bullock's Bistro. It's also recognized as a special historical site by the City of Yellowknife.
